Sokka and Katara are seen fishing and while doing so, they come upon Aang and his flying bison Appa icebound. They free him. Soon, they come to know that Aang is an Airbender. He belongs to a race of people, which is known to have died out years ago.  Later on, Aang lets them know that he is the last incarnation of Avatar and has the powers to keep the four elements in line. Avatar is the one who has the ability to put stop to the leaders of Fire Nation from taking over the Nation. Prince Zuko, banished from the Fire Nation, is on quest to find Avatar. Katara makes Aang aware about the war, which is going on since years. An explosion attracts the senses of Zuko to the village.
